This week: a spiritual detour through the Dordogne, a recipe so good I made it thrice, the best beauty invention since sliced bread, and a word on book clubs (and the critics).
Gen, it's so endearing that you watch SPN with Shep😍🥰😘✨ About the bookclub: Misha and Emily have a bookclub too😅 I've been navigating between your and their bookclub like a pro💪🏻
Putting Dordogne and Sarlat on the list of places to visit.
I love a good pot pie so I feel you.
If book clubs get more people reading then good! One of my favorite childhood memories is going to the library with my mom. I still love the going to the library. I always feel like I’m on a treasure hunt.
As a 22 year old soon to be 23 year old Gen Z, I was one of those kids that absolutely hated reading. But I learned to love it during 8th grade. I even forced the teachers to get additional help which glad I did because I didn't even know the word peculiar till then.
And I have seen first hand of Kindergarteners and 1st graders needing more help in phonics (a -apple-ah ect), writing and pronunciation. This past April and May (started working at my own elementary school as a Paraprofessional for ECE [K-2]. Also had prior experience as a before and after school member staff from August 2021 to May 2023.
I even learned on how to say words that I don't know how to say by working with these students. It's called tapping, for an example cat, /c/ /a/ /t/. The students even have it with dots under each letter and point at it while saying the phonics.
selfishly, i always leave these zoom calls feeling more content than i was before. its just really lovely to see a familiar face and hear people talk about their work and art with genuine love and interest!!! fuels me up every time.
oh god good luck with high school. i loved getting to see ghent, its such a gorgeous city so thanks for giving me a reason to visit :)) i personally love the book club, if nothing else it helps get to know the author, connect with other people, share a passion and find a community so please never stop. i think we could use a lot more of people just sharing a love for something and talking about people they admire.
HOLY MOLY- that is so insane that Gen Z is that low in standardized testing!! Also- Shep is hilarious, that is so true LMAO! It's hard to see change in the people we love because we don't want to let them go because of how much we love them; you're doing an amazing job with your children and should be proud, Gen. As for the book club goes, I SERIOUSLY ADORE your book club, and I love participating each month! Never let the critics get to you! I hope you are enjoying this summer!! Sending lots of love and ~good vibes~ you and your family's way!!
best of luck to Tom on going on to high school!! it’s a roller coaster (at least for me it was lol considering the entirety of my junior year was during the pandemic) and shep… SAME !! would not survive one day in the world of supernatural.
I need you to know your that book club is amazing and without it, I wouldn't have heard of The Paris Match that I'm finally getting to reading right now! Also, I got my mom interested in your book club through Katherine Center. Keep doing what you're doing, Gen!
*wrinkles nose* I'd never join a book club for literary criticism -- definitely not in the academic sense!!!
I agree that younger generations have lost the joy of reading...I'm 100% a Reading Rainbow kid and proud of it!!! Speaking of, have you ever watched the documentary "Butterfly in the Sky?" I saw it one year I was lucky enough to go to SXSW EDU. I cried.
I hear you on kiddos growing up...my niece is finishing her sophomore year of high school, and my nephew is going into 8th grade...what happened? Where did the time go?? When did the go from being little people to young adults????
“If my coworker said that to me I’d quit on the spot” same Shep same 🤣🤣🤣🤣 also yes to flats ! I feel this in my soul my husband is 6’1 and I am 5’2 so trying to be the same height is a struggle. I’ve just accepted it at this point lol. But those sandals are super cute ! Also high school 😭 oh my goodness sending you all the hugs mama I can only imagine the emotions you’re feeling. Enjoy the summer I look forward to these weekly footnotes 💜💜💜
How boring would life be if we couldn’t gush over things that made our hearts sing?! My aim is to find something to gush over every day. ❤️
